Boating Safety and Etiquette
Safety Committee Update 2024
We continue to monitor events concerning wake boats and are following efforts at the State level to implement the DNR recommendations limiting operation in loaded mode to 15 feet of water and 500 feet from shore. We updated the SLIA brochure to include a map outlining safe operating areas and want to thank wake boat users for doing their best to follow the guidelines. The brochure is available at the boat launch and copies were distributed to the campground, marinas, and at the annual meeting. As anything new unfolds, we will engage the SLIA members for input.
An alert SLIA member shared concerns about deterioration of the boat launch (potholes) and we got in touch with the DNR who is coordinating repairs. In case repairs are not completed timely, we ask you to be aware when taking your boat out of the water.
Beginning in about 2022 (following Covid and the growth of marinas on US-37/31), the area seems to have discovered Silver Lake. As traffic has increased, it is important for us to help pass the word on safety, etiquette, and “who to call,” to all users to protect and preserve the lake for years to come.
