Shoreline Stewardship
Shoreline Update
Are you wanting to protect your shoreline? Are you looking for more attractive solutions? Do you know where to go for resources and solutions?
The Michigan Natural Shoreline Partnership website has a wealth of information on solutions, plants, landscapers and more. Take a look at their website: https://www.shorelinepartnership.org/
It is possible to have a landscaped lawn, swim area and use healthier methods to protect your shoreline while also adding beautiful plants and flowers to your upland space. Utilizing bio-engineering methods to protect your shoreline such as Coir (coconut fiber) logs, natural vegetation and appropriately installed rip rap can protect your property. Hard shoreline structures such as rock walls and improperly installed rip rap can reverberate energy from wave action, and result in more erosion.
Please remember that any work on your shoreline must have an EGLE Permit. To create a permit in the MI Portal website: https://mienviro.michigan.gov/ncore/external/home
